Must Visit Locations

Tea Bungalows, Central Highlands of Sri Lanka

The Tea Trails, Dickoya

The Tea Trails are a wonderful collection of four tastefully refurbished tea planter's bungalows: Castlereigh, Norwood, Tientsin and Summerville. The four properties, which opened in 2005, are situated in Dickoya, a beautiful lakeside location in the heart of Sri Lanka's tea-growing highlands. The Tea Trails offers the highest standards of old-world luxury and is sold on a full-board basis.

Tientsin Bungalow, Dickoya
Tientsin Bungalow was originally one of the first properties to be built for British tea estate managers in the days of the Raj. This luxurious bungalow is a perfect getaway deep in the Southern Highlands. Six renovated old-style rooms open onto spacious gardens.

Castlereigh, Dickoya
Castlereigh is a century-old bungalow nestling at 45kms south of Nuwara Eliya, over 5000 feet above sea level. An indulgent, luxurious property, originally built for British tea estate managers in the days of the Raj, it occupies a prime position in a wooded area close to a lake.

Norwood Bungalow, Dickoya
This luxurious old tea planters' bungalow commands fine mountain views, about 45 minutes south of Nuwara Eliya.

Summerville, Dickoya
Summerville is another highly-recommended bungalow in the Southern Highlands, 45 minutes south of Nuwara Eliya. It stands high above a lake at the edge of a tea plantation.

Bandarawela

Kirchhayn Bungalow
Kirchhayn Bungalow stands in peaceful grounds on the edge of the Aislabie Tea Estate, near "the forgotten hill station" of Bandarawela, in the breathtaking Southern Highlands.  This is a spacious property with magnificent gardens.

Kirchhayn
Kirchhayn is a haven a few miles from the "forgotten hill station" of Bandarawela, and has an expansive and relaxing feel. To stay here has been accurately described as "like having the use of some friends' home while they're away."

Calliandra Bungalow
Calliandra Bungalow is situated 1,200 meters up in the tea district of Uva at Poonagala, just west of Bandarawela. The Bungalow is over 100 years old, built in the days of the intrepid Scottish tea planter, who wished to create a home away from home.

Silver Spring Lodge
Silver Springs Lodge is situated high above a steep-sided valley, blessed with panoramic views of the Namunukula mountain range, paddy fields, tea estates and vegetable gardens.

Haputale

Sherwood Bungalow
Sherwood Bungalow is a beautiful recently-refurbished bungalow on working tea plantation, surrounded by a well-kept garden, with a variety of flowers, birds and butterflies and blessed with beautiful views of the mountains beyond. Recline in a Planter's chair and enjoy the scenic beauty of this place with a hot cup of Ceylon's finest tea. Sherwood Bungalow provides for a fantastic alternative to a hotel.

Thotalagala, Dambaetenne Tea Estate
Sit on one of the benches in the garden, cup of Ceylon Tea in hand, and watch the mist rise up from the valley floor, slowly cloaking the mountain from which you peer.

Diyatalawe, Adam's Peak, Talawakele, Dickoya

Cranford, Diyatalawe
Set in the south-eastern slopes of Sri Lanka's tea-growing hills the bungalow boasts some breathtaking scenery. A beautiful garden makes for perfect quiet afternoons sipping tea and reading novels.
